AI Chiefs Start Arguing For Slower Frontier Progress
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei argued that frontier AI development needs to slow down, citing recent safety incidents and rapid capability gains. Business Insider reported that Sam Altman and Elon Musk responded supportively to the call for stronger pacing and independent safety oversight.
The business relevance is governance, not doom. The most powerful AI companies are now debating whether speed itself has become a liability. That reframes competitive advantage: labs may need to prove restraint, monitoring and verifiability, not only model performance, if they want trust from customers, regulators and capital markets.
