OWNERSHIP
Creator Control Becomes The New Hollywood Bargain
Mark Fischbach, known as Markiplier, told Business Insider that more creators should consider entering film and television without giving up creative control. His self-funded film Iron Lung reportedly grossed more than $50 million globally after he wrote, directed and starred in the project.
The story is a creator-economy version of founder control. Distribution, financing and audience ownership are moving closer together, but independence comes with operational burden and real financial risk. Markiplier's lesson is not that every creator should become a studio; it is that leverage changes when the audience is already owned.
