Fathom trades independence for Superhuman's forty million users
Superhuman has acquired Fathom, the Y Combinator-backed meeting notetaker founded in 2020, which raised more than $30 million and was valued at $94 million in 2024 according to PitchBook. Fathom's free plan drew over 400,000 monthly active users, and the company said more than 1 million people have recorded meetings on it. Superhuman had tested its own notetaker internally before buying.
Fathom's CEO Richard White framed the decision around distribution rather than survival: Superhuman's 40 million users offered reach a standalone company would have spent years assembling, alongside an email client, docs, calendar and agent builder Fathom would otherwise have had to construct. Superhuman's CEO Shishir Mehrotra reached the same conclusion from the other side, finding a finished product cheaper than confronting how much a notetaker demands.
