Thirty Brazilian companies pledge one per cent of net profit to public causes

Two years after its launch by IDIS and Instituto MOL, the Compromisso 1% initiative has gathered 30 companies of varying sizes and sectors that already donate at least 1 per cent of annual net profit to civil society organisations, or commit to reaching that level within two years. It was presented at the Brazilian Philanthropy Forum held on 27 August 2026 in São Paulo.

Roberta Faria, co-founder of Instituto MOL, argued the point is not the percentage but removing donations from dependence on circumstantial results and making them part of strategy. Fábio Cury, president of the board of Cury Construtora, said that before the commitment the company ran one-off actions with no defined budget; the goal let it project resources for the Cury Institute across the next five or ten years.
