The robot founder who refused to chase the humanoid crowd
Aaron Edsinger, chief executive and co-founder of Hello Robot, will demonstrate the Stretch 4 home-assistance robot live at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, held October 13 to 15 at Moscone West in San Francisco. Stretch 4 launched in May 2026 and its first production run had already sold out by June 2026. The company says six years of customer feedback shaped the generation.
While much of the robotics industry builds humanoids that walk, dance and perform backflips for video, Edsinger settled on a wheeled machine with a single telescoping arm, judged by whether someone with quadriplegia can drink a protein shake, handle glasses or brush their teeth. Edsinger founded Meka Robotics and Redwood Robotics, both acquired by Google in 2013, and later served as the company's robotics director.
