LEGACY

After Nineteen Seasons, Sabathia Puts the Foundation Ahead of the Ceremony

CC Sabathia pitched 19 seasons in Major League Baseball before retiring in 2019, and the New York Yankees retired his No. 52 on September 26, 2026. He and his wife Amber founded the PitCCh In Foundation in 2008, amid a free agency decision, and it now runs three programs: the All-Star Baseball Clinic, the Youth Backpack Program and Field Renovations.

Amber Sabathia describes the foundation as the outcome of years of conversation rather than a reaction to a moment, with the explicit aim of directing money where it would create change instead of writing checks. CC Sabathia says the calendar is set by what works for the children, not by accolades, and calls the overlap with the jersey retirement unplanned rather than engineered.
