AI agents turn engineers into coordinators as the craft quietly leaves the job
At Daytona, an AI startup with thirty people, engineers now coordinate AI agents instead of writing code. Chief executive Ivan Burazin told Business Insider that each of the company's sixteen engineers oversees about five agents on average and no longer writes code. At Wipro, chief technology officer Sandhya Arun said AI has added productivity equal to twenty thousand workers.
Sinda Khenine, a software and AI engineer at Electrolux who is also starting her own AI business, says agents let her build a company alone. Without them, she says, it would have been ten times harder. The cost does not appear in any productivity figure. Her hands-on engineering has given way to a loop of setup, monitoring, reruns and assembly, which she finds more demanding than managing people.
