Breye Therapeutics turns a 4 million euro seed into a 67.5 million euro Series A
Breye Therapeutics, a Danish clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, has closed an oversubscribed Series A of 67.5 million euros to develop oral treatments for retinal disease. Mission BioCapital and Novo Holdings co-led the round. Founded in 2019, Breye left stealth in November 2022 with a 4 million euro seed. The money will take its lead drug, danegaptide, into a randomised Phase 2 trial for diabetic retinopathy starting in 2027.
The round is tied to one defined finish line: a Phase 2 study designed to show proof of concept for danegaptide, a pill aimed at earlier-stage disease where injections into the eye are poorly tolerated. Part of the capital feeds earlier programmes in intermediate age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma, so the test of discipline lies in how much of the 67.5 million euros stays pointed at that one readout.
