Omnio banks €2.9 million from existing backers before its clinical gamble

Omnio, a biotech startup based in Umeå, Sweden, has raised an oversubscribed €2.9 million round entirely from existing investors and shareholders to push its plasminogen-based therapy for hard-to-heal chronic wounds toward clinical studies. The round follows €4.3 million raised in spring 2025 to complete GMP manufacturing. Chief executive Felipe Velasquez said the company plans to open its next financing round in the first quarter of 2027.

The sequencing is explicit rather than opportunistic: Velasquez said the next round is being structured around key development milestones, with patient studies targeted during 2027 and contract research organisations, investigators and trial countries across Europe already under evaluation. Lead indication is diabetic foot ulcers, where advanced cases cost an estimated €50,000 per wound episode. Each raise answers a named technical gate, not whichever pressure happened to be loudest.
