Healthleap raises $38 million on the hospital costs its software helps stop

Healthleap has raised $38 million for an AI platform that scans hospital patient records for undiagnosed conditions such as malnutrition and delirium. The total combines an $8 million seed round co-led by Sequoia Capital and First Round Capital with a $30 million Series A led by Hummingbird Ventures. Siblings Jemima Meyer and Josiah Meyer founded the company in South Africa in 2022, and it works with more than 50 hospitals.

At the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Healthleap says its malnutrition program produced $23.8 million in annualized financial impact. Of that, $17.5 million came from shorter stays and $6.3 million from added reimbursement. The business sells less on what hospitals earn than on what stops draining out of them. Its contracts are priced against a return that the hospital finance team itself validates.
