Musk Pledges a SpaceX Share to Every American Child, a $10.7 Billion Gift
Elon Musk has pledged to give one of his own SpaceX shares to every American child next year, a gift CNN puts at about $10.7 billion. Roughly 73 million Americans are under 18, and SpaceX shares closed near $146. Musk made the promise in an October 2026 post on X without explaining how the shares would be distributed or who would qualify.
The pledge came as a reply to Anthropic, which in October 2026 said it would place at least 5 percent of its shares, worth about $48 billion, into a Public Benefit Fund for social causes. A giveaway this large, framed as a rejoinder and offered without any stated method or qualifying rules, looks less like a plan with a defined endpoint than an answer to the loudest rival.
