Teams grow stronger when leaders care, but the people providing that care pay for it
An opinion column by an Entrepreneur contributor argues that care-centered leadership helps teams resolve conflict, manage resources and stay engaged, and cites the author's own research as support. The author says that pairing high expectations with coaching and follow-through builds trust and spreads knowledge beyond a few high performers. In the author's data, giving that kind of care had no negative effect on a person's advancement.
The column ends with an admission that leadership advice rarely makes: care makes the organization stronger, but the organization seldom shares the cost with the people who provide it. Noticing problems, holding people together and bridging gaps all build real executive skill. Most of that work never appears on a performance review. Part of the team's resilience is therefore paid for with effort that nobody records.
