Fast early revenue is not proof a startup is ready to scale, Disrupt panel warns

Rapid revenue in a startup's first ninety days is not evidence that it is ready to scale, according to Luke Arno, go-to-market lead at Lovable, speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt as reported in October 2026. His test: ten customers won in ten different ways is income without a repeatable motion, while three won the same way signals confidence. Lovable reports annual recurring revenue above six hundred million dollars.

The pressure comes from Lovable itself, valued at more than thirteen billion dollars after raising over seven hundred million, a pace Tomasz Tunguz of Theory Ventures calls the exception. With seed rounds now ranging from five million to five hundred million dollars, quick revenue looks like an opening. Building a sales team on scattered wins turns it into fixed cost and a growth story the product cannot yet carry.
